When attached to a a tree our tree wrap is designed to prevent squirrels and other rodents from climbing. The tree wrap is constructed form HDPE plastic and is both slick to the touch and heavy duty. The material can be cut to the circumference to match the tree and then attached with nails or a tight band to hold it in place. Once in place the smooth texture makes it impossible for the rodent to gain footing, thus making it impossible for the rodent to climb the tree. The material can be installed in both hot and cold temperatures and is manufactured with build-in UV inhibitors to help the material resist breakdown when exposed to sunlight. The tree wrap is available in 100’ rolls in various different widths and is made in the USA.

Note: Steel squirrel trap pictured is not included

*The widest HDPE roll that we offer is currently 8’ (96 inches).

Please note that we are unable to provide custom roll lengths.

Connecting HDPE Pieces

There are two ways to connect multiple pieces of HDPE together. One method is to overlap the HDPE and use our double sided seam tape to connect the two pieces. The other method is to butt the ends together and use our 17 mil single sided seam tape to create a solid connection.

Overlap Method
(for underground installations)

The overlap method is best used when connecting two pieces of HDPE in a buried application. Due to the overlap, a ridge is exposed which is not ideal when installed in exposed vertical or flat installations in high traffic areas as there is a possibility of an object catching on the ridge and pulling the two pieces apart.

In a below ground installation, the large overlap area provides a more water resistant connection as well as enhanced protection against tree and plant root intrusion.

End to End Method
(for exposed installations)

When installing HDPE on a wall, floor or anywhere that is exposed, the end to end method provides a secure connection and does not leave any ridges exposed to potential catching by a person or object.

Squirrel Climbing a Tree

Treatments To Remove Squirrels From Your Trees

There is no doubt many people love watching squirrels play in their yards and in the trees. These fluffy little characters can be quite amusing but they can also be quite destructive. Squirrels will feed on your vegetable garden and fruit trees, they will dig up your flower beds and bulbs, gnaw on your outdoor wooden furniture, and even dig holes in your yard to store their food for the winter months. There is absolutely no way you can prevent squirrels from getting into your trees but you can make the surroundings in your yard a lot less appealing to keep the numbers down.

Do Not Feed The Squirrels

In most cases, people probably do not have squirrel feeders but you could have other sources that will attract them. Squirrels will go for your bird feeder for seeds that have landed on the ground for some extra food. You can also choose to remove the bird feeder to eliminate their attraction to bird seeds.

Also, some trees in your yard will naturally attract squirrels. They love nuts and fruits and will head to these trees and enjoy a great snack. As it's probably not a great idea to remove the tree, it can be a little difficult to cut off their food supply. A good alternative is regularly cleaning up food that falls from the trees.

Have Plants Squirrels Don't Like

In order to protect your plants, incorporate plants in your garden and flower beds that squirrels do not like. You might consider planting flowers that repel squirrels along your yard line or near the trees to protect against squirrels. Some great choices include:

Daffodiles (Narcissus), grape hyacinths (Muscari), and snowdrops (Galanthus) are great options along with peppermint. Consider buying some of these plants to repel squirrels from your property.

Squirrel Baffles

There are things you can do to discourage squirrels from stopping by but there are some squirrels that will find a way to slip through and head to your trees. Installing plastic sheets might do the trick. Trees that squirrels attack can be wrapped in HDPE plastic approximately 2 feet high for trees that are around 4 feet tall. While the plastic sheets will make it impossible for squirrels to climb the trunk of the tree, they can still jump from another tree or from a utility line.

Squirrel Repellents

There are some natural remedies that might help out by sprinkling or spraying around your trees to repel squirrels but will only work temporarily. Capsaicin is found in peppers and there are many pepper products to choose from including cayenne pepper powder and pepper flakes. You can purchase commercial squirrel repellents that contain capsaicin but make sure you use this product regularly, especially after it rains.

Dogs Can Scare Off Squirrels

If you have dogs, have them in your yard for as much time as possible to keep these characters away from your gardens as long as the weather permits. Dogs, by nature, bark and will chase squirrels which will discourage them from hanging around your house. If your dogs do not seem interested in chasing squirrels, there is another alternative. Collect your dog's hair after brushing or ask a neighbor if they have a dog and could give you some dog hair. Sprinkle the hair in some key spots to drive off squirrels.

Keep in mind, whatever method you choose, you must treat on a regular basis and if you love squirrels, this could be hard to carry out.
